Martech team left to right: Mark Langahan, Daryl Piontek (TPS), Bruce Beames, Daniel Saprunoff, Kerri Trace (Stantec), Glenn Votkin (Martech)

Platinum Sponsor Martech helps triple previous years funds for the Sooke Salmon Enhancement Society (SSES).

"Glenn Votkin joined the Consultant Invitational Fishing Derby Committee in May 2007 and has been an indispensable member of the committee ever since. His ideas and innovative creativity played a major role in changing the event from a small scale local event to an impressive and media praised over-regional event." said Christoph Moch Chair of the Committee.

SSES is a non-profit and 100% volunteer organization that operates the Jack Brooks Salmon hatchery near Sooke. Financed solely through donations, the SSES has been primarily responsible for most of the salmon and steelhead enhancement projects in the Sooke River watershed. Due to these efforts, the Sooke River remains habitat to several Pacific salmon species.

The 2008 Consultant's Invitational Fishing Derby (CIFD) this year raised 600% more money than the year before, a total of $9000 for the the Sooke Salmon Enhancement Society. SSES has typically operated on a limited budget of approximately $25,000 a year. Though the organization is 100% volunteer operated, the annuals costs associated hatchery operations (including electricity, fish food, facility upkeep, etc.) does not leave funds for needed capital improvements.

The Consultants Invitational Fishing Derby donation will contribute towards the following SSES needs:

  • Upgrading of the water supply to ensure reliable water source during the summer season
  • Purchasing of new net pens for rearing salmon fry in Young Lake and Sooke Harbour
  • Subsidization of the ongoing operation and maintenance costs

Team Martech was also Ranked #1 in the category Largest Salmon. Congratulations to Daryl Piontek with TPS (Total Piping Solutions) for catching the largest Salmon in this category. See derby results http://www.consultantsinvitational.ca/2008-results.html
